Scientists recently found out where purple martins migrate to during our winters; the amazon basin. They then fly north to the U.S. to eat our mosquitoes and pesky summertime bugs. They are the only bird that depends completely on humans for habitation. So if you want less bugs for your backyard barbecues, put up a purple martin house, or as the Native Americans did, hang hollowed gourds with a 1 1/4" diameter hole.
